Pickup rules

Fair pickups for everyone

When you request something on Halver, a neighbour is setting it aside for you. These rules make sure it reaches someone — and that everyone gets a fair chance.

Fresh food in 4 steps

For perishable food — cooked meals, fresh produce, bakery and anything meant to be eaten within about a day.

1
First come, first served

The first person to request gets it

Once someone requests it, it shows a Reserved chip — tap Show interest and you'll be told if it frees up. Each item shows a label — Immediate, Urgent or Normal — as a hint of how soon that kind of food usually goes off.

2
Before you request

Check the time and be sure you can go

You'll see when the food expires and these rules before you confirm. Cancelling needs the host's approval — only request if you can collect it in time.

3
Friendly reminders

We'll remind you before it expires

You'll get a reminder 1 hour and 15 minutes before the food expires. Chat with the host in the app to agree a time.

4
Confirm the handover

Scan the QR code when you meet

Confirm the handover with the QR code or 6-digit pickup code. Forgot to scan? You both have 15 minutes after expiry to confirm it — we'll send you both a reminder.

If fresh food isn't collected

Uncollected fresh food is wasted food — and someone else could have had it. If a requester doesn't collect in time:

Requested with less than 3 hours to go? Last-minute requests are welcome — there's no penalty if you can't make it.

Other items in 4 steps

For furniture, books, clothes, tools and everything else — including long-life food like rice or canned food.

1
First come, first served

The first person to request gets it

Once someone requests an item, it shows a Reserved chip. Want it too? Tap Show interest on the item — it's free. If the person who reserved it doesn't collect it, everyone who's interested gets a notification, and the first to request gets it.

2
Book your pickup

Pick a date and time

Choose any day before the item expires — the calendar only lets you tap days the host is available — and a time, so the host knows when to expect you.

3
Friendly reminders

We'll remind you on your day

On your pickup date you'll get a reminder every couple of hours during the day (never at night), and the host gets a heads-up that you're coming.

4
Confirm the handover

Scan the QR code when you meet

Your pickup date lasts until midnight (the host's time). Forgot to scan? You have 1 extra hour after midnight to confirm the handover.
